Education and Training

 

TSOYAA will work closely with The Office of Education and Employment Services in identifying the issues and obstacles that must be focused on in order to obtain and maintain gainful employment. Example of services include: orientation, screening for readiness, testing of reading and math skills, adult basic education, computer training, job readiness coupled with life skills workshops, internships, and job placement activities.

 

GED Prep & Skills Upgrades:

 

TSOYAA will administer the Maryland General Equivalency Diploma classroom training for adults and minors who need to review and update their educational training. Practice exams are included in the training.

 

Computer Training:

TSOYAA will provide initial training on personal computers will highlight current industry requirements such as Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Students are encouraged to further explore computer related opportunities such as the repair and maintenance of computers, upon completion of the initial training.

 

Computer training will be available mornings, afternoons and evenings, Monday through Friday with open lab time on Fridays.

 

Office Assistant:

 

TSOYAA will provide training in basic office skills in areas such as communications, clerical, administrative, records management, typing and filing. These are the basic skills necessary to attain employment with a starting salary above minimum wage.

 

Word processing training levels will include introductory through advanced. It is believed at a minimum this is a requirement in achieving a position as an Office Assistant. High concentration will be placed on typing and mastering keyboard functions as the first step then, focus on spelling proficiency and speed will follow. The goal will be the production of a final finished product.

 

Miscellaneous:

 

TSOYAA will also provide instruction in various labor trades for those who are gifted in design, art sciences, culinary, and hospitality such as seamstress/tailor, general laborer, cooking and housekeeping. Individuals will be successful in securing a sense of accomplishment and pride for themselves. The training will allow them to remain self-sustained in today’s economical society without returning to welfare roles, correctional facilities or at worst homelessness.
